Frequently asked
Everything you need to know about Last Letter. Couldn't find yours? Email support@lastletter.app — a person answers, usually within a day.
How does Last Letter work?+
Last Letter helps you write and safely store final messages for your loved ones. You'll receive regular email check-ins to confirm you're still okay. If you don't verify your status, and you've added a trusted contact (available to premium users), we'll ask them to confirm your status before delivering your messages.
Do I need to say everything in the message?+
Not at all. Your message can be as simple or subtle as you'd like — even just a hint or reference that only your recipient understands. Some users say things like, 'Check the red box,' or 'Look in the white drawer.' It's your voice, your way.
What happens if I miss a check-in?+
If you miss a check-in, we'll first send you a reminder. If there's still no response, and you've added a trusted contact (available on paid plans), we'll ask them to confirm your status. If no one responds — or if they confirm you've passed away — your messages are delivered automatically after a final fallback period.
Is my data secure?+
We use secure storage and industry-standard protection practices to keep your information private. Messages are encrypted at rest and only accessed under strict, automated conditions defined by you.
Can I update or delete messages?+
Yes. If you're an active user, you can update or delete your messages, recipients, and trusted contacts anytime from your dashboard. Free plan users are limited to 1 message and no trusted contacts. To unlock more, you'll need a paid plan via Buy Me a Coffee.
How much does it cost?+
You can use Last Letter for free with 1 message. Memory Keeper ($5/month) gives you 5 messages, a trusted contact, and YouTube videos. Final Vault ($10/month) extends that to 15 messages and 15 recipients.
Who sees my messages?+
Only your designated recipients will receive your messages — and only after you've been confirmed as deceased or inactive by a trusted contact (for users with one), or after your final fallback period passes.
Can I include videos or links?+
Yes, but only in the dedicated YouTube video field — not in the message body itself. This keeps your words safe and easy to read. If you're on a paid plan, you can include one YouTube link per message (we recommend setting your video to Unlisted). For security and clarity, we don't allow any clickable links in the message body itself — just heartfelt words.
Do I need a trusted contact?+
Trusted contacts are optional but highly recommended. They help confirm your status before any messages are sent, adding an extra layer of protection. This feature is available on Memory Keeper and Final Vault.
What if I want to cancel?+
You can delete your account anytime from your profile page. This will permanently erase all messages, recipients, trusted contacts, and personal data. If you're no longer using the service, we recommend deleting your account to prevent unintended message delivery.
What if my messages were sent but I'm still alive?+
If you missed your check-ins and your trusted contact didn't respond, Last Letter may have assumed it was time to deliver your messages. While we can't recall messages once they've been sent, your account remains active. To continue using Last Letter normally, just sign in and resume your check-ins. To avoid accidental sends in the future, click the daily verification emails, keep your inactivity period reasonable, and ensure your trusted contact is responsive.
What happens if my support expires?+
If your support lapses, you'll be downgraded to the Free Plan. All extra messages and trusted contact features will pause, but your primary message (if set) will still be sent when needed.
Last Letter is for personal, heartfelt messages only. It is not a will, legal document, or substitute for professional estate planning.
